Your site, your instructor, your Rank Day.
A licensed site runs its own cycle with its own instructor; nobody from the company attends. One certified instructor may teach and score alone; the method requires no second adult.
Who does what
- A licensed site runs its own cycle with its own instructor; nobody from the company attends.
- One certified instructor may teach and score alone; the method requires no second adult.
- Student leaders never score, are never alone with younger learners, and are never responsible for safety.
- The author runs no classes and makes no site appearances; every question is answered in writing.
Before the cycle
- Apply online; payment details come with the licence. The instructor books are printed with the site's name and mailed.
- A site confirms its own instructor with written checks and keys: a readiness check (18 of 20 to pass), one observed session, and a calibration within one level on 10 of 12 anchor samples.
- Student Books are ordered at the site price, one per learner.
- The site provides the room, boards and clocks, its insurance and its staff checks.
- Each site sets its own dates, its own room and its own price, or runs the cycle free.
The twelve weeks
The cycle runs five chapters with their labs in weeks 1 to 10, a review in week 11, Rank Day in week 12, and the reports in weeks 13 and 14.
| When | What |
|---|---|
| Weeks 1 and 2 | Chapter 1 and its STEM lab |
| Weeks 3 and 4 | Chapter 2 and its lab |
| Weeks 5 and 6 | Chapter 3 and its lab |
| Weeks 7 and 8 | Chapter 4 and its lab |
| Weeks 9 and 10 | Chapter 5 and its lab |
| Week 11 | Review and the portfolio |
| Week 12 | Rank Day |
| Weeks 13 and 14 | Reports to families |
Rank Day and the certificate
After each twelve-week cycle comes Rank Day: a quiz, a puzzle set, games, a short oral explanation and the cycle's portfolio, weighted by tier. A learner passes at 70 or more, with no attribute below Developing and conduct at Proficient. One instructor runs and scores Rank Day, on the same rubrics and pass rules at every site. Families receive a Rank Progress Report within two weeks of Rank Day. Ranks are earned and recorded on a certificate; nothing is worn.
Privacy, every week
Sites keep records by student code, not by name, and publish no learner's name, photograph or score without written consent. The site shares attendance and Rank Day results by student code only; no learner's name, birth date or photograph leaves the site.
What a site never does
- A site never names the company or the author as host, presenter, guest, judge or helper.
- A site never posts a learner's name, photo, voice, score or work.
- A site never uses a Rank Day item in a taster session or online.
